Welcome to the Charter Township of Van Buren!
In Van Buren, we like to say that we are a half hour away from anywhere in the world! Indeed, in thirty minutes, one can drive to Canada and in less time, one can be at Detroit Metropolitan Airport ready to fly literally anywhere on the planet. Situated midway between Detroit and Ann Arbor, Van Buren has many pleasing attributes that make this a great place in which to work, live and raise a family.
With a balanced mix of rural, suburban and urban features, Van Buren is home to beautiful Belleville Lake, Wayne County's only inland lake. One will find several parks here in which to spend leisure time with family and friends. A short trip along I-94 or I-275 will take you from Van Buren to some of the nation's top educational and medical facilities, as well as a number of shops and restaurants. Within the township's boundaries are many "mom and pop" shops, international companies such as Visteon and Ricardo, well known national retailers, several churches and a number of professional services. Van Buren enjoys a mix of residential housing from million dollar lakefront homes to apartments with quick access to area freeways.
Our children attend Van Buren Public Schools and Lincoln Consolidated Schools or various charter or private schools. The township enjoys having the Western Campus of the Wayne County Community College District, one of the country's fastest growing educational institutions, within its borders.
We are pleased to provide high quality municipal services in Van Buren including our award-winning recreational programs, well-regarded September Days Senior Center and a community made safe through comprehensive and innovative public safety services. Our millage rate is among the lowest in the region.
Yes, Van Buren Township is a great place in which to live, spend one's leisure time or conduct business. As a lifelong resident, I have seen our community transition from a small, rural community to one that is vibrant and diverse, and whose greatest asset remains those who call Van Buren home. We are pleased to have you join us.
