The Camp With Public Safety Program gives kids a chance to enjoy a camping experience with the men and women of the Van Buren Public Safety Department.
Van Buren Township has many features that set it
apart from other local communities. One of the major features is Belleville
Lake. Summertime is a great time to get out on the lake and enjoy all that it
has to offer, however safety should be first and foremost in everyone's mind.
Van Buren Township Police believe that the better prepared for emergencies the
residents are the safer and more enjoyable Belleville Lake becomes. That is why
Van Buren Township Police and Fire offer a Boater Safety Class. For the current
class offerings please check the calendar page or contact Van Buren Parks and
Recreation Department or the Van Buren Public Safety Department.

For the most precious of cargo, Van Buren Township Police offer car seat inspections to ensure the safety of your children. According to the NHTSA traffic fatalities are the number one cause of death for kids between the age of 2 and 14. An improperly installed car seat can lead to a more serious injury or even death. The officers here are trained and can show you what to do and what not to do. The information can also be passed on to anyone that may be transporting your children such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, or neighbors. Make sure you are doing all that you can to ensure your children's safety. Contact the Van Buren Township Traffic Division for more information.

Vacation Checks
Vacation time is supposed to be relaxation
time. The last thing anyone wants to worry about while on vacation is whether or
not their home is safe. Van Buren Township Police offer a service called
"Vacation Check". The officers are given a list of the houses where a resident
will be away from for a set period, during that time the officers make sure that
your home is included on their routes. Although many of us would love to have
someone planted in the driveway, this is the next best thing. Studies show that
as police patrols become more visible the likelihood of robberies and other
crimes goes down. Stop by the police station and fill out a vacation check
request form and vacation with one less worry.

Vehicle Lockouts
We have all done it. No sooner than you shut
your car door you realize "ahhhh" your keys are still in the ignition. Some are
lucky enough to have Onstar
, but for
those of us who do not Van Buren Police offer Vehicle Lockout Assistance.
Because this is not considered an emergency please do not dial 9-1-1 for lockouts (unless of course an emergency is
involved) instead contact the police department on the non-emergency number and
depending on officer availability dispatch will send someone to help you as
soon as possible.
