Remember the ABCD's of portable fire extingushers.

TYPE A

ORDINARY COMBUSTIBLES

Such as paper, wood, cardboard, cloth and upholstery

TYPE B

FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS

Such as gasoline, alcohol, solvents, paint, oil and greases

TYPE C

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

Such as energized electrical equipment, electrical panels, fuse boxes and circuit breakers

TYPE A B C

ABC

Multi-purpose dry chemical such as ordinary combustibles, flammable liquids and electrical fires. This type of extinguisher is recommended for home use.

TYPE D

COMBUSTIBLE METALS

Such as magnesium, titanium and sodium

 

 

 


 

How to use a portable fire extinguisher

Remember the word : PASS

P Pull the pin from the extinguisher handle.
A Aim the hose or nozzle horn at the base of the fire.
S Squeeze the handle to discharge entire contents of extinguisher.
S Sweep  the extinguishing agent across the base of the fire.

Most portable extinguishers work according to these directions, but some do not. Familiarize yourself with the instructions on the extinguishers in your work area and home. 


In the event of a tornado or severe weather

Tornado Watch - Time to Plan and Prepare

A tornado or severe thunderstorm watch is issued whenever conditions exist for severe weather to develop.

 

Tornado Warning - Time to Act!

A tornado warning is issued by the local weather service whenever a tornado has actually been sighted or strongly indicated by radar.

Please familiarize yourself with the tornado shelter areas near your home or in the building in which you are working.
